Hip Hop is Dead

Yes. That's tight.

This isn't much of a post I know. I've been juggling a new job with a psycho boss and another blog that's been gaining more popularity than I'd expected. I suppose that's why I've kept this on LJ. This is a much less professional environment. This is like something I do in my spare time. No, it's not cool that I don't take this more seriously. I feel strongly, but I guess I don't have the passion. So yea. This is my hobby, not my passion, and I don't know how I feel about that.

Anyway, check that video. Good stuff. Exactly what I'd say in these pages if I had that passion.

Hip Hop is Dead

I've written this entry 6 times over now. My mind just has to much tumbling around in it for me to get the proper focus out. But rather than abandon the entry all together lemme just say this little bit. I Finished lookin through Graffiti Women today. It was nice, though lacking a bit in larger shots. Many pages display a collection of works, while fold outs frequent an even more massive display of multiple pieces. Not disappointing, just marginally annoying. I was impressed though at the quality of most of the work. Female graffiti artists really don't get the level of respect they deserve. I'd recommend at least checking it out. Head to your bookstore and give it a couple hours of your time, or check if a library nearby has a copy. By no means revolutionary but a damn nice book all the same.

Hip Hop is Dead

So. Feedback, response. This is good. External stimuli to react upon, not much but to be honest I really haven't put myself into this board as much as I'd originally intended too. Maybe I deserve it.

Either way, it doesn't matter.

Today I'd like to talk some about why I think Hip hop is dead. Gangsta rap gets blamed a lot. I guess that's fair. But can't that be hip hop too? I'm curious what others out there think about Nas. I wonder how many would say that Tupac wasn't about real hip hop.

How about Public Enemy?

So why do I think hip hop is dead?

Beware: Long ass rant ahead.

Hip Hop is Dead

[mood |tiredtired]
[music |Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Change the World]

Well here I am, the start of something new. Testing the waters as the saying goes.

I am not alone in the belief that Hip Hop is dead. People know, from time to time a book or magazine article surfaces about it, occassionally you'll even find a forum thread discussing the topic. It is not my goal to increase awareness, not yet at least. I am uncertain as to how I fit into this scenario, if I fit into this scenario...

I believe Hip Hop is dead. So what now?

I write. I write because I don't know how else to solve the problem. I put my thoughts out there, I share them with the world. But I have much I could say. So what now? Where do I begin?

Where does it end?

My mind is muddled. So while thoughts rage in my mind, nothing comes out. The neck of the bottle is clogged.

Perhaps over time, some of my thoughts will escape, and perhaps if I collect them here I can veiw over the collage when it's finished and have a better understanding of myself. Perhaps that is what this place can also be for you but regardless of whether or not that is the case, I welcome you, your thoughts, whatever you may have to contribute to the collage.

So what now? Where do you begin?
